The most remarkable thing about Prague isn’t the churches, or the number of bars & restaurants, or even the insane fairytale buildings & architecture.
The most remarkable thing is the ease of getting around this crowded city on public transportation.
Trams, buses, Metro, street cars, trolleys, scooters, carshare, bikeshare, you name it. Everyone rides it. Old & young, healthy & infirm, happy & sad, normal & insane, it frankly doesn’t matter because it is so ubiquitous.
There are no ticket agents or turnstiles or scanners. It is a system completely based on trust and community commitment to comply. You jump on and jump off without even considering it. It’s what you do to get around. Why would you own a car, I don’t know.
I ultimately judge the livability of places by how comfortable mothers are bringing their children out into the mix.
It’s a combination of safety, ease of use, convenience, cost, hassle, and comfort.
I call it “The Stroller Index”.
Prague’s Stroller Index is quite high.
But most importantly, babies here know how to look cool.
