Breakfast Failure

Wtf?

The term “Continental Breakfast” is an abomination.

Where do I start?

First, a general declaration that no country in Europe knows how to make breakfast.

Ireland & England make the best go at it, but they serve baked beans (blah!) and something called “blood pudding” with their full breakfast.

A primer on how to make something sound unappetizing is simple. Just use the word “blood” in the title.

They could also use some work on their bacon.

And, technically, Ireland and England are not even on the Continent.

France has never heard of toast. Spain & Portugal have too much of it. They should export some of it to France.

Eggs seem a mystery to all of them. Have they no chickens? I do, on occasion, see a hard-boiled egg rolling around. I don’t think that qualifies as sufficient.

Spain has a so-called omelet, but it is mostly potato.

They eat lunch meat for breakfast. Let that sink in for a moment. I mean, it’s called “lunch meat” for a reason.

What they all have way too much of is donuts, pastries, crossiants with chocolate and THEN covered in sugar, churros with cinnamon AND chocolate, etc.

Holy diabetes Batman!

Finally, coffee. You get 1 cup. That’s it. You want more? Good luck. They look at you like you are crazy.

I did find a restaurant in Paris called “Breakfast in America” opened by an American who missed American breakfasts.

It looks like a diner. On the menu, “Endless cup of Joe”.
