Blue Skies, Fair Winds

Old Mill

Can the sky ever be too blue?

My trip so far has been blessed with amazing weather.

Sunny days. Cool evenings.

Shorts and sweatshirt weather. Much like early fall in the Mid-Atlantic.

I’m riding an ebike through northern Spain. The architecture and typography remind me of California with the tan stone haciendas, big brown hills, warm yellow sunshine, and remarkablely bright blue skies.

I pass through quintessential small Spanish towns that almost always have a church with a bell, a community fountain to fill your water bottle, the collective laundry area (now replaced by personal washing machines), sometimes an old castle, and a bar with outdoor seating.

It’s difficult not to stop for a glass of wine or a coffee, so I don’t fight it.

Sitting in the shade, a warm breeze blows by. Sipping cold wine and resting tired legs, I look up at the castle above and think:

“Lordy, I’m glad I didn’t have to haul those stones up there.”
