The NZ couple I met recently gave me a new phrase to use. They called it “ABC.”
ABC = Another Bloody Cathedral
At some point, you just can’t tour another cathedral. There are so many.
The one above is in the City of Toledo.
People were living in thatched huts burning cow dung for heat when it was built, and the Cathedral is 10 stories tall, all made out of stone.
Word.
It’s insane that between a nice bout of leprosy and the bloody pox, some Cardinal is like, “Hey, I’ve got an idea, let’s build another massive cathedral.”
Honestly, though, it’s lovely, but one does begin to question their order of priorities.
I guess when you have no medicine, you figure that building another, even larger temple, to the original Big Guy might get His attention.
When you tour each Cathedral, they tell you that the stained glass windows were meant to tell the story of Christ to an illiterate population.

Slight problem at 10 stories, it’s tough to see, much less grasp the message.
Here’s an idea, take the money for the stained glass windows and open a school to teach people to read.
Just sayin.
To finish on this tangent, just how many paintings of the Crucifixion does one society really need?

Apparently. . . alot.
