What makes a place “vibrant”?
Is it the sheer number of stores or restaurants?
Is it an amazing nightclub scene?
Is it buskers playing “Stairway to Heaven” on an accordion or a string quartet in tuxes set up on stools on a busy corner?
I’m not sure, but ultimately, I believe it is the number of people out and about.
Sevilla has a remarkable amount of outdoor cafes. Almost all of them filled up with people enjoying the day and night.
People make a city. The people here like to come out and enjoy their surroundings. It might be tied to the lack of air conditioning.
Everywhere you go, people are walking, talking, drinking, and eating. It is quite something to behold.
Late at night, I followed a lady pushing a stroller with a baby and a small child (asking a lot of questions), walking beside her through narrow alleys and empty streets. It was late, and the mother seemed to have no concern.
I have not had any issues anywhere in Spain for my personal safety. It might be because I am in mostly tourist areas, but if mothers pushing strollers are the ultimate indicator of safety, then any negative thoughts I have are misplaced.
Spain screams:
Come out into the streets.
Drink, eat, laugh, dance. and enjoy.
Bring the kids.
You are safe.
Clearly.
