Florence Syndrome

He’s got to be cold. . .brrr!

On most international trips, you come down with something.  I am no exception.

This time, I came down with the Florence Syndrome.

Florence Syndrome is a psychosomatic condition involving rapid heartbeat, fainting, confusion, and even hallucinations, allegedly occurring when individuals become exposed to objects, artworks, or phenomena of great beauty..

I mean, come on. I never had a chance.

Okay, I will tell you about the things I didn’t like about Florence:

The crowds of people, all walking slowly staring around.

That’s it. I loved everything else.

The buildings, the history, the food, the Medicis, the fashions, the Medicis, and, of course, the Art.

The place is literally dripping with Art.

All of my tour guides were former Art history majors who came to Florence and never left.

Even the Nazis, when they were retreating from Florence during WWII, refused to blow up the Ponte Vecchio bridge because it was. . . too beautiful.

Florence swooned the Nazis.

I never had a chance.

  1. My favorite city. It leaves me with a different experience and impression every time I return. My visit last year was the 50th anniversary of my first visit and I stayed at the same, unchanged pensione.
