The first time I met Raj
I was not impressed.
He had long hair, an earring, leftist views, and he looked like he desperately needed a sandwich.
We became friends in the most normal way men become friends – shared misery.
We were both in the Army National Guard because it was a way to pay for College when there are no other options.
Many a night were spent on cold guard duty lamenting our fate and building our friendship.
Over the years, we have drank together alot, talked endlessly, and bicker like an old married couple.
He got me hooked on coffee.
I got him to smoke cigars.
Ultimately, we have shared one anothers’ joys and sorrows over lives well lived.
He made the effort to visit me on my travels.
We now have some new memories in Venice and Florence.
Good times with a good friend.
Forty years and counting. . .
