The Night Train

The train rolls through the countryside.

I’m traveling on the overnight train from Copenhagen to Stockholm.

Agatha Christie novels and 1930s-era movies left me an impression of romance, mystery, and high culture was happening on these trains.

The truth is a tad less exciting.

Six bunks in a small compartment.

If anyone had romance that night, I didn’t hear it.

The biggest mystery to be solved was figuring out where to put my luggage.

Nonetheless, the train whistle and the sound of the coaches hurtling along the rails lulled me to sleep.

And in the morning, there I was in Stockholm.

Rested and ready for high culture. . .  and a cup of coffee.

And I thought climbing the corporate ladder was tough

I love this one, Kevin! I too dream of riding a night train (mine is the Nordland Night Train in Norway), so thanks for demystifying… but I’m still up for it if the opportunity comes my way. 🙂
